Thursday Morning Reflection - Acts of Kindness

As I reflect this morning, the notion that every person can make a difference by small acts of kindness stands out in my mind. Every night before the campers go to bed we ask them to pause and reflect as a group about their "Rose and Buds" of the day (or the best part of the day and what they hope for the next day). Sometimes these musings will be about a favorite activity or food, but more often at camp we find the campers pointing out the acts of kindness and generosity that occurred throughout the day. This notion of small acts of kindness and every person making a difference is so deeply enmeshed with the day to day life at camp and helps form the wonderful friendships and memories that last a lifetime.

Last night when I perused through my pictures, I was struck by the numerous small acts kindness that had occurred over the past day. Yesterday we saw these acts as a pat on the shoulder, a camper teaching fellow campers how to make a friendship bracelet out of gimp, words of encouragement, working together on a sailboat to get it moving on a calm and windless day, or simply listening to one another as they sat around a circle. We also saw great kindness and leadership when the oldest group of teens - our LIT's - took out the youngest campers on the voyageur canoe boat  for an afternoon ride on the lake and sang camp songs, helped and taught one another and simply had fun.

Here at camp every camper and staff can and does make a difference with their amazing acts of kindness, and these acts spread and grow to make camp the magical and inspirational place it is.

Have a wonderful day!
Yours in camping,
Stacey
